{"id":41758,"date":"2011-06-08T12:15:48","date_gmt":"2011-06-08T20:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/?p=12219"},"modified":"2011-06-08T12:15:48","modified_gmt":"2011-06-08T20:15:48","slug":"through-the-lens-of-a-glass-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.razib.com\/wordpress\/2011\/06\/08\/through-the-lens-of-a-glass-house\/","title":{"rendered":"Through the lens of a glass house"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Nature<\/i> has a very interesting piece up right now, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nature.com\/nature\/journal\/v474\/n7350\/full\/474153a.html\">Don&#8217;t judge species on their origins<\/a>, which addresses the periodic bouts of hysteria which are triggered by &#8216;invasive species.&#8217; I&#8217;ve <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/2011\/05\/toward-evolutionary-monism\/\">addressed before<\/a> the issue of <b>biological terminology of convenience being transformed into fundamental and principled Truths.<\/b> The separation between &#8216;artificial&#8217; and &#8216;natural&#8217; selection, or more archaically the division between &#8216;humankind&#8217; and the &#8216;natural world.&#8217; There are important reasons why these terms emerged the way they did, but we shouldn&#8217;t confuse the terminology for the truth.
