Over at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fark.com\/comments\/6273292\/Genetic-privacy-may-be-doomed-so-all-you-in-valids-better-grab-a-broom\">FARK.com<\/a> the comments were rather uniformly alarmed, and influenced by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gattaca\">Gattaca<\/a>. For example: &#8220;It&#8217;s really kind of shocking how accurate Gattaca is turning out to be.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Unfortunately I haven&#8217;t watched <em>Gattaca<\/em>.<\/strong> I read a negative a review when the film came out, and since I don&#8217;t watch many movies in any case I passed. This I&#8217;ve come to regret because of the influence of the film, whether it was great as a work of art or not, is strong enough today to routinely be referenced. It seems to have pretty good reviews on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/gattaca\/\">Rotten Tomatoes<\/a>, and it&#8217;s got some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/trends?q=gattaca\">staying power on Google Trends<\/a>. I keep meaning to watch it on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/B000T45C32\/geneexpressio-20\">Amazon Instant Video<\/a>, but then there&#8217;s the opportunity cost of time. So I did the second best thing, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gattaca#Plot\">I read the plot summary on Wikipedia<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nThe main thing I took away from reading the plot summary of the world of <em>Gattaca<\/em> <strong>is that the power of genetics to predict the future is far greater in that world than &#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the comments below when it comes to genomic privacy I expressed a rather carefree attitude toward the future possibilities of dark prediction.
