{"id":43147,"date":"2011-08-15T22:36:04","date_gmt":"2011-08-16T06:36:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/?p=13531"},"modified":"2011-08-15T22:36:04","modified_gmt":"2011-08-16T06:36:04","slug":"the-end-of-environmental-inequality-means-the-rise-of-genetic-inequality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.razib.com\/wordpress\/2011\/08\/15\/the-end-of-environmental-inequality-means-the-rise-of-genetic-inequality\/","title":{"rendered":"The end of environmental inequality means the rise of genetic inequality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few people have pointed me to Charles Murray&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.american.com\/2011\/08\/the-debate-about-heritability-of-general-intelligence-radically-narrows\/\">comment<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.american.com\/2011\/08\/the-debate-about-heritability-of-general-intelligence-radically-narrows\/\">The Enterprise Blog<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.american.com\/2011\/08\/the-debate-about-heritability-of-general-intelligence-radically-narrows\/\">The Debate about Heritability of General Intelligence Radically Narrows<\/a>, which <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/2011\/08\/half-the-variation-in-i-q-is-due-to-genes\/\">alludes to the recent finding of genomic confirmation of the behavior genetic heritability measure for intelligence<\/a>. Murray indicates that this should end the &#8220;debate&#8221; on the heritability of intelligence as a quantitative trait. As I implied earlier much of this debate had more to do with rhetoric and ideology than reality, in that I doubt many people support a very low heritability measure for intelligence ( &lt; ~0.30) in <strong>developed societies<\/strong> when they don&#8217;t have strong ideological commitments. These commitments being that social policy can homogenize environments enough that only the genetic components of variation of a trait value will be important in the future, so that heritability values will go from ~0 to ~1.0.<\/p>\n<p>\nAt this point some of you may be rather confused.
