My immediate reflex was to be skeptical of this, at least going by Will Provine&#8217;s treatment in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/0226684644\/geneexpressio-20\">The Origins of Theoretical Population Genetics<\/a>, which seemed to push back the timing to the 1920s.<\/p>\n<p>So I looked up &#8220;population genetics&#8221; in Ngram viewer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/files\/2011\/10\/popgen.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-14080\" title=\"popgen\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/files\/2011\/10\/popgen.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"630\" height=\"273\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nThese results are not consistent with my expectations. Looks like my intuition was wrong. At least for the term population genetics.
